How does the zappi know I have surplus solar energy?
The zappi comes with a small clip-on sensor (a CT clamp) that our installer fits to your main electricity meter cable. This device measures energy flowing to and from the grid in real-time, allowing the zappi to see exactly when you have surplus power available to divert to your car.
What is the difference between ECO and ECO+ modes?
In ECO mode, the charger will use as much solar as possible but will top up from the grid if needed to ensure a minimum charging speed (around 1.4 kW). In ECO+ mode, the zappi will only use surplus green energy. If the surplus drops below the minimum threshold, it will pause charging until more becomes available, ensuring a 100% green charge.
Does zappi work without solar panels?
Yes. You can use zappi as a standard smart EV charger in FAST mode. You can still benefit from its smart scheduling features to charge during cheaper off-peak electricity tariffs.
Is the installation complicated?
No, for a qualified professional. The installation is similar to other EV chargers, but includes the additional step of fitting the CT clamp. Our experienced installers handle this routinely and ensure everything is configured correctly for optimal performance and safety.
