Solar Panels on Troon Family Home

Residential Installation at Family Home In Troon

Location

Troon, Ayrshire, Scotland

The Brief

A family in the coastal town of Troon wanted to install a solar energy system to reduce their household electricity bills and secure long-term savings. The project faced several challenges, including limited roof space, shading from nearby objects, the presence of delicate rosemary tiles, and multiple roof orientations. A solution was needed that could maximise energy production despite these constraints and withstand the local salt-mist environment.

Your Approach

Ceiba Renewables designed a bespoke solar PV system to overcome the specific challenges of the property. To maximise power generation in a limited area, high-performance SunPower E20 327W panels were selected, which are also durable enough for coastal conditions.

To mitigate the impact of shading and accommodate different roof orientations, the system was integrated with SolarEdge power optimisers, allowing each panel to perform independently. To protect the fragile rosemary tiles during installation, a specialised Schletter mounting system with Hookstop was used, ensuring a secure and damage-free fit.

The Result

The custom-designed 3.924 kWp solar PV system has consistently outperformed its initial estimates, delivering significant value to the homeowners. Key outcomes include:

  • Exceeded Expectations: The system’s actual annual production of 3380 kWh is nearly 20% higher than the estimated 2837.86 kWh.
  • Environmental Impact: The installation achieves an annual CO2 saving of 1,215 kg, contributing positively to the environment.
  • Proven Reliability: Since its installation in June 2014, the system has operated without any issues, demonstrating its high quality and reliability.

By combining measurable cost savings, reduced carbon emissions, and a tailored design, the project stands as a strong example of how renewables can be successfully integrated into family homes, raising the standard for sustainable living.

First class fitting and service – I had a solar pv system fitted and it’s been installed now for over a year and never once have I had a problem with it or has the system not worked. The production of the system is far higher than the SAP values and has proven to be a very good system at the price it was installed at.
